Rear-Ended!

Yep, I was in an accident yesterday. I have never been in any kind of accident before but I am thankful we all walked away with minimal injuries and damage! Ironically, there were tons of accidents yesterday evening due to the winter storm however, I was hit yesterday from behind while it was still sunny and bright! What can you do?

We were in the left turn lane, as the light turned green the cars started turning then all of a sudden the two cars in front of me slammed on their brakes, I laid down on mine luckily leaving barely enough room to not hit the person in front of me. As I did that, I looked in the rear view and my heart sank because I knew I was getting slammed. (worst feeling ever!) I quickly accepted my “fate” but was surprised at how hard my neck got thrown forward !!!

Thankfully, a police officer was in the right lane and saw everything happen. He was kind of like a knight in shining armor, he stopped traffic and helped me figure out what to do. The guy that hit me  kept telling me how I should stop him from filling out a report and I should just have him pay for damages without insurance, etc. His car had been through plenty of accidents before this one, which made me feel like I needed to protect myself because this guy obviously isn’t the best of drivers.

The officer had us fill out the report and said we could go through insurance or not, whatever we wanted to do.  He and I chatted about the storm coming, etc. and turns out he knows one of my friends ! Small world, everything happens for a reason right?

Well, my car is pretty much fine ( a dent and scratches is nothing to what I was fearing as I stepped out of the car) and I think I am fine too. My neck hurt a little at work last night and then this morning when I woke up.  I highly doubt I have any serious medical complications. Like I said, this is the first time I’ve been in an accident so I wouldn’t know the process. I remember thinking my ex should immediately go to the hospital but his accident was much worse.

What would you do?!?! Would you go through insurance or would you feel bad for the guy that hit you and have him pay for damages?

So much can change in the blink of an eye!

  1. That’s always such a scary experience! Glad you are okay though. Rest up and take it easy. The few days following are usually the most uncomfortable. And you did the right thing about filing it with the police. It’s the best way to insure you are taken care of and not screwed over.

Go through insurance! I worked with personal injury claims for a couple years and dealt with insurance companies (although not on the insurance end of it). It will be the safest route for you. If you don’t file and he never pays it can be a drawn out process and you may end up with court costs.

Glad you’re okay! You may be even more sore tomorrow, although I hope not!

  3. oh my gosh! I’m so glad you’re ok. I can only imagine how you felt, anticipating the accident. I would probably submit the claim, just to be safe. Don’t want this guy to screw you over

  4. As long as a police report was filed, I would probably just let the guy pay for it.

I am glad to read you are okay — that is the main thing.

  5. Go through insurance! And go to the chiropractor to get your neck checked out (often injuries won’t show up until later). While some people would rather pay out of pocket, it will likely be less hassle for you to make sure his insurance takes care of everything (assuming he doesn’t have some terrible insurance like Geico or something)

  6. Oooh sorry about that! I would submit the claim to be safe. You have no idea if this person will pay up!

  7. Oh my gosh…how horrible! How are you feeling now? How is your neck?

I would definitely go through insurance, but I’m paranoid about stuff like that.
