How I eat because I can…

by bhealthy on February 16, 2010

When you are single and living in your own apartment….I can eat right out of the take out containers!

Dinner was take-out from work, which was fabulous! My manager offered to buy me dinner, a perk of working in a restaurant and working hard! She suggested the special, “Kate’s North Atlantic Haddock with Feta and Artichokes”…

It blew me away ! I was really not that eager to try it, as you will see in a minute, I am very much a creature of habit. She described it though and sold me ( well, she was buying it so she sold herself!?). It is a Haddock fillet, lightly coated in parmesan. They grill that so it isn’t too oily or greasy but add a lemon basil butter with Feta and Artichokes…

YUM!! Definitely try this if you are going to Bonefish Grill soon! It comes with our garnish, which is a corn, edamame, and pepper succotash cooked with bacon. I had french fries and a house salad as my sides- but the fries were too soggy by the time I got home to eat them.

As you can see, eating out has all this “added” calories that are hidden in the descriptions! That butter, plus the bacon, plus the fries… It makes the food delicious, but it also makes the food high in calories due to the added fats. I had plenty of food, which is also a perk of being on my own- I can have extra for lunch instead of giving my extra to someone else!

Other meals this weekend had to be super quick and nutritious because I have worked 42 hour since friday and had thesis research, class for 12 hours, and just no time to fuss around!

Easy quick Protein:

The 4% does taste different than nonfat. I eat lots of plant based fruits and vegetables so I figure the 4% is worth it for the taste when considering my overall dietary intake.

Sometimes I just eat it out of the container because I can… I did try to make it look more appealing this weekend though…

and balance the protein out with fruit

or higher fiber cereal to fill me up completely

As I mentioned a few posts back, I really like this meal…It is has been my go-to breakfast all weekend.

I am realizing now just how many times I had this concoction. I do eat other foods though, such as this: I made a quick lunch of brussel sprouts (steamed), black beans with salsa and cheese, and some Smoked Salmon

Did you know that one of the best sources of Vitamin D is fatty fish, such as Salmon?

I also like to eat out of tupperware…

That was two servings of black beans, low fat cheese, and lots of salsa. That about wraps up my intake for the weekend! I hope you enjoyed the photos and the food, and since this is a longer weekend recap, I did the separate Body Mind Soul recap on this post: Single on Valentine’s Day. Thank you for all of your wonderful comments this weekend- I loved reading them and seeing how wonderful your love-filled-weekends went!

    Laurel!

I’m going to Bonefish tonight for dinner (its not my favorite restaurant) I was trying to see what the healthiest/tastiest item on the menu might be so I’m thinking I should just do Scallops & Shrimp Pan Asian style minus wasabi cream. (I would do the salsa, but I hate warm salsa, and dont like theirs). Do ya’ll put butter/oil on the vegetable side dishes?? Should I ask for no oil/butter on my veggies? email me back please!

    Ooh! Fancy take-out!

Thanks for the comment on my blog, you were right, my list DID have GNC supplements on it! My point is still true though, it was their basic multivitmin, nothing special really. Thanks SO MUCH for pointing that out. I’ll make the change in my wording PRONTO!

By the way, it’s pretty cool that you work at Bonefish. I used to be a waitress and I loved it (and hated it too sometimes…) but it was a great time of my life.

Hey chicky! I so wish we had a bonefish! We have mass gift certificates to the bonefish/outback/carrabbas chain (hence why I treated myself to that salad last night) but we don’t have a bonefish here! Glad you tried the new meal! Stevia in the raw does have a slight after taste- not nearly as bad as some of the other stevia brands I’ve tried (truvia is the WORST). Have you tried nunaturals stevia? It has the least after taste to me but is a little pricey. I hope you are doing well! Hows school?

I guess I’m kind of the opposite. For me it’s all about the presentation of the food. It tastes better to me if I serve myself on a nice plate or drink from a pretty crystal glass. I like fancy!

Thanks for the comment Karen! I might have called this post “How I eat because I HAVE to” … I just had the busiest schedule ever so I wish I could have had the time to put together a nicer presentation!

Tying into that– CANDID- I also work for North Carolina , I am updating the nutrition curriculum for Grades 1-6 …. so that is my “real” job, and then I am also in school Full Time for graduate hours, and I also blog…. and I am a guest service associate (kind of like one step away from FOH mgr) at Bonefish … I love my life right now though- its crazy but its filled with these completely different jobs and tasks and responsibilities! I didn’t know you were a server!!! Did you ever have “server dreams” ? People tell me they dream they forget to close a check or give someone change etc..

Caroline- Thanks! I know it was fancy take-out and FREE… which made it somehow taste even better! It might have been the amount of cereal and cottage cheese I ate all weekend too… hmmm

Sarah- I emailed you but I hope you enjoyed the skewers, pan asian with roasted veg!! haha

I wish I ate that well and balanced when I’m crazy busy! You’re on top of things!

Hey, I eat right out of my tupperware all the time! Every weekend I make a huge batch of soup (currently–vegetarian bean chili) and then scoop it out of the container ALL WEEK.

Also… treadmill (cough cough… DREADmill runs) are always boring for me. I hate not having scenery to pass me by!

I like eating out of the container just because I can, too :D

i love the title of this!! :) sometimes i’m so lazy after the gym (even though i’m pumped, i’m tiiiired) that i just grab my food and run to my bed! my sore butt needs a rest!

Lauren – I love that you do that with soup!!! Veg chili , yummy! Dread-mill!!! Oh No! That is funny. We have 3 TV’s in my apartment gym- two are right smack in front of the Dread-mills….Keeps me occupied and I also stare at the pool and dream of hot weather! My recent break-up has led me to have a Pool at my place now! I just wish it was warm for me to enjoy!

Sagan- Thanks for making me feel like not the only person that eats out of the container!! I do like presentation but seriously, when I have zero time – its purely function and fabulous! Makes me feel like a “Rebellious Food Blogger”
