OBX Marathon Recovery

by bhealthy on November 23, 2010

It was so difficult to walk the night after the race and the day after the race! Getting in the jacuzzi the night after the race was super helpful, using a back massager on my legs helped too! Riding home 3 hours was not the most helpful but necessary to make monday meetings at work! Tuesday was slightly better, Wednesday even better and Thursday even better. Friday I could finally walk around and move just fine!

I did invest in a wonderful full-body massage to help my muscles recover and remove all that lactic acid build up! I ran for the first time since the Marathon (8 days ago) at lunch time on Monday of this week. My coworkers usually go to a “women on weights” exercise class during lunch and I decided to do an “easy run”.

Well, I ended up running 5 miles in 40 minutes exactly. I actually walked for a quarter mile of that, I jogged every other quarter mile and sprinted a few of the quarter miles. I had the bright idea yesterday after realizing if that is what I could do easily, How about I try to race on Thursday at the Turkey Trot 8k ?

40 minutes will be just at the Top 3 cut off for my age group. :-)   I registered today 11-23  :-D

My life is not consumed by running, though it may appear so.

In the past month, I went to a wedding at Lake Lure Inn & Spa

Grabbed Siggi’s Icelandic Yogurt on Sale at Whole Foods!

Started a new job… with an office… a big desk and a table with chairs too

I was putting together Food Model Kits for the Agent’s I supervise !

I was treated to lunch out with my new co-workers!

Found out Kombucha came back just in time to fend off a lingering cold!

Tried a new chicken salad recipe

Invited to attend a work-related dinner at Sullivan’s two days after my marathon (fine-dining steak, open bar)….

Cabernet

Spinach Salad with Bacon Vinaigrette ( I was hungry, I ate almost all of everything with no guilt!)

Chilean Sea Bass with Horseradish Whipped Potatoes and Green Beans

Key Lime Pie ( nope, no guilt, just delicious tasty bites!)

And my coworkers and I were actually persuaded to take home the centerpieces…

What else is on you calendar?

I have got this 8k race on Thanksgiving morning, Thanksgiving Feasts, Black Friday Shopping, and MOVING out of my apartment this weekend, big stuff going on at work the following week, and the week after, and then its CHRISTMAS !

Where does time fly?

I hope I fly through this 8k on Thursday…. Keep your fingers crossed!

You can check out the professional photos from my the Outer Banks Marathon HERE . Does anyone purchase their professional race photos? It is like $20-30 just for one 5 x 7…
way too expensive in my opinion! Interestingly, these photos show me finishing at 4:19 ….  I started exactly 10 minutes past the official first gun ( 5 waves, 2 minutes each…). Ah Well.

I live to see another RACE !!!!

Have a great Thanksgiving! Enjoy the Turkey Trot :)

Regarding your commenton my, every person is missing the enzyme that breaks down the compound found in beans. So, the “cure” really is Beano. There is no other coice we have! I won’t give up my beans and cruciferous veggies, so I’m happy to have Beano available.
