Giveaway: Diet Drama

by bhealthy on March 14, 2011

Do you ever spend time wishing you looked different?

I used to and quite often! Before starting this blog, all I wanted was to “be healthier”. A large part of that was about being content with myself. I would wish I had smaller shoulders, curly hair, bigger thighs, and my ears were funny. Yes, I said bigger thighs so that I could jump further in triple jump. It made sense at the time! I love them now, especially at mile 21 in my first marathon last year!

To a certain extent, I feel like comparing or wishing certain things about you were different is normal or at least what our culture would consider normal. It is no longer surprising that you feel you have to look a certain way to be happy or be a certain size. Thankfully this blog was one thing that has helped me accept and appreciate the differences instead of wishing for similarity. There are a multitude of other things but thankfully, I can deal with the never-ending pressure.

Everyone faces pressure. Young women today are facing tremendous pressure where they need it the least. Eating, exercising, and body image are major areas where young girls and women today face mixed messages and pressure.

Today I am content with myself but it has been quite the journey to get there. Even two years ago, I was nervous to share a post of me in a bikini…(I know a couple of you might remember the original post!). My sister (on the right) helped convince me that our bodies are amazing and we should be proud of them!

I might not be a swimsuit model but I love myself and my body more than ever! I’m hoping that with this post today, I can help someone else love theirs or just make the path to get there a little bit better!

So speaking of SWIMSUIT models, my first giveaway comes with the support of a NY Times Bestselling Author, featured on ABC’s Good Morning America, CBS’s The Early Show, NBC’s Today Show, Oprah & Friends, CNN, The Tyra Show, E! True Hollywood Stories, PEOPLE magazine, NPR, PBS, Inside Edition, and …..a winner of swimsuit competition at Miss America!

She is none other than, Nancy Redd, author of “Body Drama” shown below in its’ multiple language versions! Nancy recently released another book,  “Diet Drama”.

International Covers

I love that Diet Drama starts off with body image, because having a healthier view on our bodies is just as critical as nutrition and exercise! I love that Diet Drama has sections regarding balancing your plate, knowing how much you need (to eat) and caring about what we consume! Those are all key ingredients to Being Healthier!

Nancy has graciously decided to send an Autographed Copy of her latest book, Diet Drama, to one of Being Healthier’s readers!!!!

All you have to do is comment on this post with one thing about yourself that you LOVE. If you add me to your blogroll or share this post via twitter/blog/facebook etc. you can also gain an extra entry! I will do a random number generator to select the winner.

Comment on this post until Friday March 18th. I will do the drawing on Friday after work  and the winner will be announced on a Saturday morning post!

GOOD LUCK !!!

I do remember that original post! To be honest- my biggest “fear” about having a baby girl is worrying about her worrying about things like this (does that make sense? haha). I just hope to be able to install in her the values about eating healthy and being healthy in all aspects of life like my Mom did (vs. worrying about how we “look”). I used to hate the muscles in my legs- now I love them because they enable me to do so much!!

This book looks really interesting! I think loving your body for the wonderful creation it is, is of upmost importance for living happily and truly loving yourself, which makes you better able to give more. When I catch myself being negative, I love to quickly switch gears to being grateful for having a strong healthy body. Good for you for encouraging that!

Whoops! I forgot to answer your question. I’ll share this on Facebook too so I don’t mess up the numbers :) One thing I love about myself is my innate desire to teach love.

i don’t know how this came to be, but i genuinly love my body. it’s far from “perfect” and yet somehow, i’m not minded at all. (my hair though…i guess that’s something. it’s crazy some days…) looks like a great book! you’d know i’d be all over this if i weren’t SO far away…. :-p

You look amazing! I just had a baby a few months ago and it really does change your inner body. I’m my normal weight but my body seems softer to me. Could be that my abs were completely separated for ten months during pregnancy or that I carried an eight and a half pound baby in that region but weight isn’t what it’s all about, it IS about health and muscles too. That is something I’m working on right now.

I absolutely love my waist. It is because it is so small. I think it is so small because I have big hips. Everyone has always told me how skinny my waist is so I make sure and wear belts as much as possible to show how small it is.

I used to way too hard on myself. It is such a waste of energy! One thing that I love about myself is my sense of humor. I’d take that over a perfect body any old time. :)

Thank you SO much for your comment on my blog. I really do appreciate it.

This book honestly sounds amazing. We are all just beautiful creatures and it’s such a shame that we have to resort to food to change our bodies. We always label food as good and bad, and body figures as pretty or ugly, fat or thin. Is that all that we are, really? Are we really just a body?
No. We are a heart, mind and soul. And they’re the things that matter most!
