A new perspective
The latest visual aid from the USDA to coincide with the 2010 Dietary Guidelines has been revealed! It is the “MyPlate”…
It is far more simple to understand the plate than the pyramid. I think a generalization can be said for R.D’s and Nutritionists: nutrition and health is very complex, involving so much information that we tend to communicate (too) much information; case and point is the MyPyramid! The plate helps put it out there as far as simple messages go. I think it really will help drive the message of “Balance”.. balance the plate as best you can for an overall healthier diet!

Choose My Plate
I traveled for work this week again and wanted to share how I managed to stay healthy even though I was out of my normal element!
After a morning of driving and afternoon of teaching/asssiting with the program, I had lunch with two of the Agent’s in the county I was visiting. They took me to this absolutely delicious bistro in Asheboro! If you ever visit the zoo in Asheboro, make sure you stop in for lunch/dinner at Bistro 42 ! One was celebrating her birthday and the other was just such a sweetheart! We decided to choose the make your salad options and split the French Fries with Garlic Aoili.

The salad option was amazing as was the rest of the menu options so it was hard to decide. I choose romaine, mixed greens, fresh buffalo mozzarella, roasted red peppers, artichoke hearts, pears, praline pecans, mushrooms, cucumbers, and grilled chicken with shallot vinaigrette.

It was outta this world and I was able to take the second half home for dinner and the fries too! I truly feel that if you want something, you should have it but try to have it in moderation. I was so excited that my company also wanted to share the fries so that we could enjoy ourselves in moderation, staying guilt free!
Once I checked into the hotel, I realized it was literally overlooking the Childress Vineyards!
I took a run through the entire vineyards on their walking trail…
This one below is not my favorite …
Found Petite Verdot, Pinot Gris, Cot, and a few more too!
