WOW and WIAW

Who doesn’t love a good acronym?

I am excited to join in the fun with What I Ate Wednesdays (WIAW) because I love recap posts, food or exercise related. I started recapping my weekly workouts on wednesdays, which has helped me keep track of 14 weeks of training!  I figure why not also throw in What I Ate Wednesday and make it a recap-fest.

The half marathon I have picked is Nov. 6th, which will be here before I know it! I have scored some major PR’s in the last couples weeks of my training…

  • Week 7  (20 miles total)      PR 5.1 mile -  35 minutes
  • Week 8 (16.5 miles total)   a 12.5 miler and a 4 miler
  • Week 9 (22 miles total)     a  14 miler and an 8 miler
  • Week 10 ( 24 miles total)    PR 13.1 miles – 1 hr 26 minutes
  • Week 11 ( 14 miles total)    a 10 miler and a 4 miler
  • Week 12 ( 16.1 miles total)  a 5 miler, a 3 miler, and a 8.1 miler

This week was not so much a PR week but much more of maintenance for me. I know I need to keep pushing myself at this point. The more I can keep maintaining the speed with strength with endurance, the better chance I have at reaching my goal for the race! Here is what I have done this past week and the plan for next…

Wednesday Oct. 5th-  Rest
Thursday Oct. 6th-
Strength- Back, Biceps, Quads, 3 mile run
Friday Oct. 7th-  Rest
Saturday Oct. 8th – Rest
Sunday Oct. 9th-
30 min Elliptical, Strength- Chest, Shoulders, Triceps, Hams, abs
Monday Oct. 10th-  8.1 mile run – 60 minute lunch break.
Tuesday Oct. 11th-  Hot Yoga ( Did not happen because of preparing coursework!)
Wednesday Oct. 12th- Gym- Strength (Back, Biceps, Quads)

Plan for Next Week:
Thursday Oct. 13th-
Rest  (Hot Yoga if I have to miss Tuesday)
Friday Oct. 14th-  Hot Yoga
Saturday Oct. 15th – 16 miles,  early morning
Sunday Oct. 16th- Hot Yoga
Monday Oct. 17th-
Strength, Elliptical
Tuesday Oct. 18th- Run with the club

Unfortunately, my knees started hurting Tuesday. I will need to add an extra stretch session with hot yoga, add in an ice bath to reduce swelling, and most likely I need new shoes!

So there is this little thing that turned into a big thing and has now become….

I used to recap what I ate, all day, every day to help me train when I first started blogging. Oh memory lane… Anyway here are some of the interesting eats…

mama-chia-chips
Honest, hands-down opinion- both are GROSS! I drank the entire bottle of Mamma Chia because I like the health benefits and I adjusted to the slimy seeds sliding down my throat. I’d eat chia seeds again but I don’t know so much about this drink. I’d rather eat salmon for omega-3′s. The flavor of the drink wasn’t bad at all, the nutrition is superior, but the texture… :-/

Those sweet potato chips were $3.19 at Whole Foods and I decided, what the heck, I will try them. Not making the mistake again with their bitter after taste. Anyone else try these? Not satiating at all. They were better than their sister variety below. Fortunately or unfortunately I’m not sure….
kale-chips
BLAH! When I bake Kale Chips myself, a big bag of Kale is ~ $1 -2 makes enough Kale Chips to fill at least 4 of these bags.  This bag of 2 servings was $5.99 at Whole Foods, but they gave it to me for $3.19 because the price was not in the isle by the product.  You couldn’t pay me to eat them again. I gave them to my coworker.

I revolted with my next choice. Nutritionist gone bad…

Bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit from Bojangles. Fries too. Tasted amazing and I have no guilt because this is the second time in the past 365 that I have eaten fast food. I don’t agree with fast food as a clutch for people who lack time or cooking skills, so I rarely ever eat it. I’ve ignored the saturated fat and sodium content on this occasion.

Maybe I should have used the acronym WOW for Worst of the Worst this week.

What’s the worst thing you have eaten this week ?!!?!

Hmmm I love chia seeds on my oatmeal but after this review I don’t think I’ll be running to the store to try the chia drink.  Or the wannabe home made kale chips.  No thanks…

Wow, nice running lady! Those are some fab PRs! I’m like you – very rarely do I eat fast food, but when I do I completely push sat fat, kcals, etc. out of my head. it ruins the deliciuosness. :)

  • Gina (Candid RD)

Oh I love your honesty!  So, the drink was no good? To be honest, I’ve never even had a chia seed, on it’s own.  Crazy, right?  They are all the rage now!  I saw those kale chips at WF and noticed the price, and quite honestly I was doing the math in my head and thinking about how much it costs to make my own (like you did) and figured it would never be work $6 for a bag of chips I could finish easily in one day!  I prefer making my own, it’s really not hard. Plus, I like to at nutritional yeast!

i think it always helps to plan out workouts in advance. mostly because i looove checking things off lists. :) and i think it’s important for nutritionists to show other people that we can eat all food…in moderation. :)

haha, thanks Em! I agree, some people think nutritionists only eat carrots and green things but most I know have a more hollistic approach!

Thanks Gina! Mmm, the drink was worth the experience. I too have yet to jump on the Chia Bandwagon and thought it’d be a nice segway to chia seeds. The flavor was great, sweet but tart not too syrupy. The texture with the seeds was really odd though. i don’t normally want to crunch my juice. I don’t even drink juice normally. It is on sale this week at WF though. I love that we both did the same calculating.  Nutritional yeast, huh? enlighten me ?

Thanks Kelly! Deliciousness shall not be ruined!

hmmm, chia on oatmeal huh? I’ve yet to try the plain seeds. What do they taste like? The kale chips were not tasty or worth the cost or ..ick.

  • http://www.beinghealthier.com Laural @ Being Healthier

Wendy- too funny! silken tofu ? I’ve had smoothies with tofu that were actually tasty…curious if it was a similar concept?

  • http://www.beinghealthier.com Laural @ Being Healthier

you’d think so… I ended up buying a bag of “real potato chips” and by that real component I’m implying the fried chip aspect.

christina! I still cannot get my comments to work on your site.  thanks so much for your comment this week! Haha, their stuff is actually not ridiculously awful and I’ve looked at their nutrition before but not this week. fondue sounds fab right now. bring on the melty cheese dip

lol, 1/2 of  TSG. NAVY… SEALS… PSU… acronyms are not hard to come by for you. I’m still laughing at 1/2 of TSG.

Whoop on the PRs. I really want to run a half one day. Cant wait to hear alll about your race. That chia drink does sound gross. I ate a bundle of chocolate chunks while I baked Monday :)

I tried those sweet potato chips too!  Mine weren’t bitter, but definitely not worth the cost.  The chia drink I saw and decided it looked to questionable to purchase.  LOL!
