Place (in Age): 21 out of 190
Time: 1:48
Fastest Training Time: 1: 26
Slowest Training Time: 1: 36
Goal Time: 1:35

Well I didn’t meet my expected goal to finish in Top 10 though had everything NOT gone wrong – I feel confident I would’ve met my goal! Overall – I am very happy that I did that well on my “worst of worst” conditions. Nearly everything went wrong that could have-on Friday I pulled a cart out of a car and twisted my back. Friday night I couldn’t walk without it hurting, my knees hurt, my foot hurt, I was considering backing out of the race. I decided to go to the pool on Saturday and loosen up, which helped! Sunday morning I woke up on time to eat breakfast, snoozed a little more, headed anxiously to the race.

Mile 1 -  6:04 minutes. Felt great, not too fast, good pace.

Mile 2- Cramps started shooting through my stomach, knee, back was starting to get achy and I knew at that point that it was going to be a struggle. I just said to myself “This is my race, run at my own pace, no winning, just calm down and enjoy the ride”. That helped get through.

Mile 3-4 -Downtown, lots of quick turns, lots of hills, up down up down.  I hi-5′d police officers that were blocking traffic and said thanks for coming out to the volunteers as well.

Mile 5-7 – The 10K’ers finished on the same course so it was motivating with all of the people there to cheer them on, lots of uphill though and then Mile 6-7 was up and down up and down.

Mile 7

Mile 8 + I was contemplating just not running anymore, my cramps had gotten worse and forced me to stop a few times unexpectedly.  A police car parked in the middle of a road decided to drive right in front of my line of running…. I figured by Mile 9 that I needed to just keep going and finish. So I did.

I think my support crew must’ve run just as much as I did to cheer me on at all the different mile markers! Thank you to them and to everyone that cheers on race runners- can’t do it without you!

Still waiting on my overall place in the race – I think it is around the top 70-100 out of 1300 females. We’ll see!

Place:  21st in Age (25-29) out of 300
Time: 1 hr 48 minutes

Sorry you didn’t run the race you wanted, but it sounds like at least you got a good workout/long run out of it. I totally remember seeing Duke Guy as I was hanging out with my teammate at the first relay exchange so I probably saw you too!

Thanks for finding my blog so I could find yours! It sounds like we probably run (pun intended) in some of the same circles around here. I’ll see ya around! :)

Thanks Three! I know I sounded pretty rough on my results but I am putting together a post for tomorrow that is more positive. I am so very happy to have completed the race and supported the Leukemia and Lymphoma society and have a support crew myself. Great day!
