Breakfast is The Most Important Meal of The Day

by bhealthy on December 16, 2011

Good Morning!

My breakfast lately has been so lame. Applesauce and a cheese stick, leftover angel hair with cheese, blueberries and a cookie. Yep. I finally decided that is SO not appropriate for this food blogger nutrition professor / associate / ? , no matter how busy I am, I know at least if I get in a good breakfast – I will function better throughout my busy day.

pancakes

I made myself pancakes. Gluten Free pancakes.

pancakes flipped pancakes eat

I did put maple syrup on them. Because I can. :-) Of course a glob of chocolate peanut butter. And, I rounded it out with scrambled eggs and blueberries. Oh and…

coffee-cream-only

Coffee…. WITH Cream. No Kahula, that was just the mug from my co-worker Katie.

What has been your lamest breakfast ever?

Hahaha, you teach nutrition and eat cookies for breakfast:) And made this information public:)
Sometime ago I ate normal breakfast (oats etc) followed by a lot of chocolate. There has been other lame breakfasts, some including alcohol. What is an ideal breakfast? Oops, shouldn’t ask you, you cookie eating nutritionist:) You will hear this again from me:)

Lamest breakfast… that is easy, a MRE (Meal Ready to Eat)

Worst breakfast nutritionally happens once annually: jack Daniels, a hostess donut, and a cigar… the true fisherman’s breakfast of choice in the Canadian outback… haha

Best tasting breakfast probably my french toast

I’ve never tried gluten free mixes for breakfast
… gonna have to try gluten free waffles in the next couple weeks

Speaking of Kahlua, my friends made me some for Christmas! It is amazing. Who knew? Homemade Kahlua – you should try it! Have a wonderful weekend!

Always so nice to have a fulfilling breakfast!  hmmm I can’t remember the latest, lamest breakfast, but back in the day I would have cold pizza and cream soda oh dear

    OOooo your pancakes look good!
    Love your question.
The lamest breakfast I ever had=cold green peas. In a big ol hurry and it was the first thing in the front of the fridge! And one time I ate tiramisu-I justified it had coffee (morning joe) and creme (little protein) and cake (toast-carbs!). (((My blood sugar dropped an hour later-never did THAT again!)))

Lamest breakfast: nothing. I hate when I skip breakfast!

  • Gina (Candid RD)

haha, what a STRANGE breakfast!  But like we always say, anything is better than nothing (unless it’s a donut….).
My strangest breakfast might have been yesterday when I was running late.  I grabbed a jar or PB and some pumpkin and took two large scoops of both.  It was weird, but strangely it tasted really great paired together.  And,I was full for a while!

Gina! That is kind of a good idea but yep… kinda strange that you though a scoop of this and a scoop of that. Nice!

eww cold green peas really ?!

Oh Kristen! I love cold pizza. If you paired it with beer I would’ve been a little worried. Haha.

  • http://www.beinghealthier.com Laural @ Being Healthier

Wow – Wendy I had no clue you could make your own. I definitely want to try it now! You too!

  • http://www.beinghealthier.com Laural @ Being Healthier

hmm MRE not cool. Your fisherman’s breakfast is hilarious. Thanks for sharing!  Yep – you’re french toast is awesome.

Hee hee. I HAD to be honest – I did have cookies for breakfast, twice. They do contain walnuts pecans eggs and oats though — so not terrible — except for the 2 cups of butter, 2 cups of sugar and 12 oz. of chocolate. :-) Recipe will be up tomorrow.

The motto goes ” Something is better than nothing…”. Ideally “Something with fruit, lean protein and whole grains” gets your day kick started well.  Hahah. You can remind me all you want.

Erica! That is too funny, a handful of chocolate chips. Nice. Hope you had a good weekend!

I was just reading that gluten free and dairy free is the first thing to try in curing a child of autism. Actually I wrote an article on it after finding out that it is now known that vaccines can cause some children to become autistic.

  • http://www.beinghealthier.com/ Laural @ Being Healthier

It is not known that vaccines “cause” autism! I spent years studying autism and the neuroscience behind it (BS in Neuroscience). It is possible that chemical properties or agents in the vaccine could alter neural development but it is actually highly unlikely that the vaccines are “the cause” or even “a cause”. There are way too many factors involved and the politically correct, parent-approved terminology is “Children with Autism” and not “autistic”. Autistic typifies the human and is often frowned upon.

However, you do bring up a good point about GF CF diets in assisting with behaviors in children. Casein (Casein Free) is a protein in dairy products. Wheat and casein have been known to cause gastrointestinal distress if someone’s immune system does not have the sufficient enzymes to break them down. Often, there is a “gut theory” for autism that these children had problems during their fetal development that disrupted their gastrointestinal development and their neuronal connections. GF CF is NOT the first thing the try to cure… Usually it is started after significant analysis of individual cases and food diaries corresponding with behavior charts. It is also started best when it is systematically taken out of the child’s diet as opposed to abrupt removal or infrequent dosing.

    Thanks for your comment Chuck!

Whenever possible I try to give opinions of experts. For example I believe in reincarnation but my article about it focused on a prominent psychiatrist that uses past life regression and links to the New York Times article about the seminar where this psyciatrist teaches it to other psychiatrists with examples of some of them recalling a past life. It has another psychiatrist telling about his interviews with children. Both have books on it.

So my article about autism is the different opinions of others. I do not treat autism but it tells what some doctors that wrote books on it say. Dr Oz and Dr Roizen wrote a book on babies. It says: “Vaccination is not the cause of the autism epidemic, but it may trigger autism in genetically susceptible children.” Dr Bob Sears was on the Dr Oz show saying that the CF free diet has helped many with autsim. Dr Oz’s children have not been vaccinated! You look so adorable with freckles on your nose. I am usually attracted to very intelligent women. I have a question for you. Why do experts on this like Senator Robert Kennedy talk about thimerasol and autism when the CDC says that it has not been used in any vaccines since  2001 except the multi-dose flu vaccine?
