Get A Permanent Solution To Dry Eyes With Lasik Surgery

Dry eye syndrome is a common condition that is all about the disturbance of tear film. This abnormality sometimes leads to disruption of the ocular surface, which eventually results in a variety of symptoms that can interfere with your quality of life. The discomfort and irritation of dry eyes can deteriorate one’s general well-being, emotional health, and social functioning. However, this health condition is benign and can be treated with artificial tears. Many medical treatments are available for dry eye syndrome, which one can choose from depending on the severity of the condition. For example, some people might just need to use an occasional eye drop or humidifier to treat their dry eyes while others require dry eye surgery.

LASIK procedure is one way of treating dry eyes of those who are healthy enough for the procedure. For others, there are a number of other vision correction surgeries available. Different types of dry eye surgery may help decrease dry eye syndrome.

The tiny openings near the inner corner of each eyelid are the normal tear drainage systems called punctae. Through minor surgical procedures, the punctual occlusion is performed for easing dry eye syndrome symptoms. This dry eye surgery procedure is simple and only takes a few minutes. It decreases the normal drainage of tears from the ocular surface down the tear drainage system.

To block the normal drainage of tears that cause dry eyes, different punctual plugs are used. Just like a stopper in the drain stops water from flowing down the drain, these plugs prevent tears from flowing down the drainage system. As a result, eyes stay moist and comfortable. If someday you wish to remove these plugs, you can do the same easily. It is only in severe cases of dry eye syndrome that the plug openings are permanently closed, making removal of the plugs impossible. If you don’t wish to undergo a dry eye surgery or your dry eye condition is not severe, you can count on ideal over-the-counter lubricating eye drops. Also referred to as artificial tears, this eye drops to relieve dry eyes.
