The mast cells also release chemotactic( responsible for specific cell movement) chemical mediators that cause lymphocytes, neutrophils, and eosinophils to penetrate the cells of the bronchial lining. These eventually move on to attack the respiratory system to cause several issues such as vascular congestion, bronchoconstriction, vasodilation, mucosal edema, increase in capillary permeability, hampered mucociliary action (removes mucus and contaminants within the bronchial tree with the help of the cilia present in the bronchioles), and increased mucus production. All these factors cause increased resistance in the airway. The extreme production of mucus may also occur in the smaller bronchioles.
