Tips And Tricks To Prevent Snoring

A large percentage of American adults have snoring problems of varying degrees. While it may seem more like an excuse for a joke than a real problem, snoring is a genuine issue that may lead to troubles such as sleep deprivation, deterioration in life quality and some cases may even indicate a serious underlying health condition.

Everyone wants to stop snoring, but one must exercise caution before resorting to over the counter medicines or stop snoring devices as they may not be scientifically backed. Instead of stop snoring devices, to prevent snoring, one must resort to natural remedies, tips, and tricks to prevent snoring.

  • Change in Sleeping Position: Sleeping on your back may sometimes cause the tongue to fall to the back of the throat and block airflow through the throat. Sleeping on your side prevents this, allowing air to flow smoothly and prevents snoring. Pillows and body pillows can be used to provide support and prevent the snorer from rolling back onto their backs while sleeping to ensure that they sleep on their side and stop snoring.
  • Weight loss: Being overweight enhances the risk of snoring as it increases the amount of tissue or fat pushing down on the throat that might lead to snoring. Regular exercise and losing weight can do wonders in such cases and is an effective way to prevent snoring or at least significantly reducing it.
  • Limiting Alcohol and Smoking: Avoiding alcohol at least two hours before bed and cutting down on smoking can prevent snoring significantly.
  • Nasal Strips: Stick-on nasal strips when placed on the nose bridge help in increasing nasal passage space, thus reducing breathing problems which automatically reduces and eliminates snoring problems.
  • Avoiding Sedatives: Sedatives have a relaxing effect on the body and can lead to the worsening of the snoring problem. Avoiding sedatives and medications such as antihistamines can be an efficient way to ease snoring.
  • Treat Chronic Allergies: Allergens can cause congestion and inflammation in the air passage which may lead to snoring. Seeking appropriate treatment and reducing potential allergens can be an effective trick to prevent snoring.
